‹gr<gracepub› hello
‹Margie› Hi suz
‹belleegrl› Hi
‹TGWB› Hi Suz…
‹Margie› Suz are we still talking about heroes?
‹gracepub› we can -
‹gracepub› Oh - Margie wins the prize - she finally found a ‘real’ hero arch type
‹Margie› lol
‹belleegrl› way to go
‹gracepub› Actually - after a year of searching - she found 2
‹belleegrl› !
‹gracepub› Sully from Dr Quinn - and some other dude I can’t remember
‹calikat› I signed up for the Advanced Romance class, Margie
‹Margie› Cool Kathy
‹Margie› that’s awesome
‹Margie› Suz….the other guy was "Harm" from the TV show Jag
‹calikat› I’m hoping it will help me finish my WIP
‹gracepub› Right - Harm from Jag
‹calikat› I need to start watching Tv
‹TGWB› That made me think of Daniel Boone, Sully and Harm…
‹gracepub› lol
‹gracepub› well - the only place you’ll find those series is on youtube
‹belleegrl› k where
‹Margie› Kathy,….didn’t you ever watch Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman?
‹calikat› no, I don’t watch any night time tv
‹Margie› k.
‹Margie› It is my genre and in my time era (1800s)
‹TGWB› Cali are you a sunworshipper, always outside?
‹calikat› that’s good for you!
‹calikat› I’m always outside, but use sunscreen and wear hats, etc.
‹calikat› People who meet me can’t believe I’m from Calif. I’m very pale!
‹calikat› I got a lot of good stuff done this week, a pivotal scene I just love and some more plotting for my storyboard that really makes the story make senses
‹calikat› I need to go back and layer the romance stuff now!
‹Margie› That’s great Cali……
‹belleegrl› have you watched "Frontier House" from pbs?
‹calikat› Suz, could you speak a few words about layering!
‹Margie› that’s where I am too…..adding the romance
‹calikat› cool
‹Margie› bellegrl….I haven’t
‹TGWB› Yeah, I have so many documents started, I’m not just adding from one to one, I’m using a series of documents so that I can cut and paste them together as needed.
‹gracepub› what do you mean layering?
‹belleegrl› You might like it.
‹calikat› the eye to body, eye to eye, etc.
‹calikat› so far they aren’t too romantic
‹gracepub› K - layering the romance
‹calikat› exactly
‹gracepub› I do that in stages - I will go through and include looks - touches - and things said
‹gracepub› Then I go through and work on relationship making sure it is building and becoming more emotioanlly intimate
‹gracepub› but the characters need to be strengthened first
‹gracepub› they need to have their growth really strong - so that the romance is ‘on top’ of the character growth
‹gracepub› not ‘driving’ it
‹calikat› k
‹gracepub› were we the group talking about starting with emotionally healthy people -not wounded birds?
‹belleegrl› yes
‹gracepub› k -
‹gracepub› so the next step is to turn them into heros - one way is to pick one hero trait and strengthen and highlight it
‹‹gracepub› never try to create a well rounded person - just ‘exaggerate’ one hero trait
‹gracepub› Harm - Sully - Horatio Cane - all the arch types have one specific hero element highlighted
‹gracepub› can you guys list what are some fundemental aspects that make someone a hero?
‹TGWB› Strength,
‹TGWB› Physical or Emotional probably both
‹gracepub› I am looking for things that you would never find in a bad guy
‹Margie› honesty
‹gracepub› that is a good one
‹Margie› integrity
‹gracepub› protecting the weak - that is horatio cain
‹gracepub› power under control - Sully
‹Margie› yes
‹gracepub› emotional control - Harm
‹Margie› trustworthy
‹gracepub› right -
‹Margie› respected by others
‹gracepub› also - there are things they don’t have happen - ie. if something bad happens or they are rejected…they never fall appart and complain or sulk
‹gracepub› respected by others is earned by being a hero - not something that makes a person a hero
‹Margie› ok
‹gracepub› what would make you respect someone?
‹gracepub› willing to die for others is a common one
‹belleegrl› following through
‹gracepub› one of the biggest misunderstandings is respect - it means doing something that others value
‹gracepub› at least - handle it a little better than the guy did in the die hard series - lol
‹Margie› lol Suz
‹TGWB› What happened in DieHard? I follow you…
‹gracepub› TGWB - yes - I agree…but a hero handles it without caving- they control the situation instead of being controlled
‹gracepub› and creating a fiction character who can drive a plot forward
‹gracepub› but in fiction characters you need to create someone that people want to be
‹gracepub› like the guys said ‘the character needs to be someone every man wants to be, and every woman wants to be with’
‹TGWB› Who said being a hero was easy, or writing about one had to be on the easy side of the street?
‹TGWB› I’m twisted I know
‹gracepub› who here has found one thing to improve in their heroes this month
‹TGWB› Mine has to stop drinking so much coffee
‹belleegrl› i am making my character face a strong temptation and resist it
‹gracepub› what ‘personality trait’ helps them resist temptation?
‹TGWB› Avoidance
‹belleegrl› patience
‹gracepub› patience is a hero trait
‹calikat› my hero is a veterinarian, she trusts him with a beloved cat and it dies,
‹calikat› and he learns he cannot save everything
‹gracepub› k - that is a situation cali
‹gracepub› not a personality trait
‹gracepub› have you ever heard anyone say ‘I like that person they are really - able to deal with dead cats.’
‹gracepub› not ‘I like that person they are really - honest’ are really - brave’ are really - dependable’
‹gracepub› make sense?
‹calikat› k no, he learns to deal with his past history, his guilt over losing his best friend where he feels responsible for the death
‹gracepub› k - those are still actions ‘he learns’ — guilt -
‹TGWB› Dealing with grief and learning… Good traits
‹gracepub› a personality trait is something that makes you- you- they can be strengthened but they always have been there
‹gracepub› a person doesn’t learn to be brave - they either are, or they are not.
‹gracepub› they can lose faith in themselves - but they are brave
‹TGWB› It can be taught…
‹calikat› he is brave, but he sells himself short
‹gracepub› a person isn’t born with ‘grief’ a situation happens that makes them feel grief
‹gracepub› cali- brave is the personality traid - selling short is a situation he must deal with …so that is a good thing
‹gracepub› This is why I am always telling people to learn about personality traits -
‹gracepub› http://wilderdom.co m/personality/trait s/PersonalityTraits Cattell16PF.html
‹gracepub› this is a short list of personality traits
‹gracepub› http://inst.santafe .cc.fl.us/~mwehr/X9 PerB5.htm
‹gracepub› after 1 year - has anyone taken a personality trait test on themselves?
‹calikat› I’ve taken several
‹TGWB› No not recently but since my last I doubt that much has changed.
‹gracepub› http://en.wikipedia .org/wiki/Big_Five_ personality_traits
‹belleegrl› no but i will
‹Margie› I’ve taken several of them
‹gracepub› read the pages that I put in this chat - and then take a personality test
‹gracepub› you can’t create a hero unless you understand what is heroic and weak about yourself
‹calikat› k
‹Margie› k….is that our homework for this next week?
‹gracepub› lol - does anyone EVER do the homework I give them?
‹Margie› lol…..
‹Margie› yes….I finally found a hero
‹belleegrl› lol
‹gracepub› ROLF
‹Margie› it just took me a long, long time
‹gracepub› you need to get this before I can teach you about layering
‹calikat› k
‹gracepub› once you can define hero traits - I can tell you about aspects of a hero that makes great characters…..like not being able to live their own lives/pain so they live for others
‹calikat› k
‹calikat› so, I am going to sign off tonite, and look forward to seeing you all next week. lol
‹Margie› bye Cali
‹gracepub› http://www.personal ity100.com/ - here, if you want homework - take this test later this week
‹belleegrl› yes Cali.
‹gracepub› bye
‹Margie› ok

‹TGWB› I’ll try to get on the same page, so that I can speak your language…
‹belleegrl› i’ll do it
‹gracepub› oh yea - 2 weeks
‹gracepub› no use having a chat next week
‹belleegrl› okay
‹Margie› k…it will give me two weeks to do my homework!! lol
‹TGWB› Can anyone contact Cali?
‹Margie› yes
‹belleegrl› lol Margie
‹gracepub› also - AC is working FINALLY - so if you want a free account - I will start the program over -
‹Margie› I talk to her my e-mail
‹TGWB› Cali chat in two weeks
‹gracepub› if you post regularily for 2 months - post book reviews etc - I will give you an Pro account free
