Why Writer's Have a Hard Time Editing Their Articles

Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht frist and lsat ltteer is at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by itslef but the wrod as a wlohe.

This is why there are spelling mistakes. However, if you want to learn a trick - read backwards. You can read this 'fast' and your eyes will ignore the mistakes. But, if you try to read it fast backward, you will get eye strain becuase your eyes keep trying to stop when it doesn't recognize the letters. You see one word at a time. Next, read this second paragraph backward - you can go faster, without eye strain, because your eyes recognize the words.

So, when you read backward, your eyes are 'recognizing patterns' not reading words.
