Who Are You?

What's Her Name

No doubt you've experienced those awkward moments when you are confronted with someone you have met briefly and cannot remember his or her name. It can be really awkward and embarrassing and is something that rarely happens with someone you know well.

It is equally frustrating on those odd occasions when you pick up a book and the author gets confused with some detail or other concerning the main character. When this happens the story doesn't work well because the author only has a nodding acquaintance with their character, they don't know them well enough to say how they will react in a given situation and so the whole story fails. You can hardly expect a reader to sympathize with a character that even the author doesn't know. The reader doesn't want to play Grissom or one of his staff, this is not CSI - don't leave the reader wondering who your character is because you haven't done the ground work. Know your characters.

I love reading and writing thrillers. I can discuss the genre for hours and not get tired. I also love writing and would like to pass that love onto others. The more stuff that is out there the more we all benefit.
