What To Write
We all have periods when we sit at the computer and wonder just what to write. If you are having one of those times then you really should do something to get things going
Writing exercises are a good way of igniting the creative spark. You could for example pick a name that you like and then write a biography, let your imagination take over and get yourself a full on character - you never know it could be the start of a blockbuster novel.
When and Where to Write
Most successful writers have a writing routine; even if they have nothing pressing to write they make a commitment with themselves to show up at a certain place and at a particular time. Find yourself a spot to write and stick to that place. Then make a date in your diary to show up there at a certain time, every day is best but if you can't manage that then try twice a week. Make sure that you stick to this. Sometimes people find it hard to write because they don't have anywhere special that they do write and they don't bother about making it part of their routine. Having a when and a where makes it far more likely that you will find the what.
Just Write
Get out your notebook and pen, set your phone alarm or kitchen timer for ten minutes and then put pen to paper and start writing. Don't think about it, you'r e not looking for quality here (although this does sometimes produce little nuggets) you are just making yourself write for an agreed period of time. If you make this a habit even on the days when all you have written is I don't know what to write, and eventually the writing will start to flow. Then you can switch of the alarm and stay with the writing. This is one way to get creative.

I love reading and writing thrillers. I can discuss the genre for hours and not get tired. I also love writing and would like to pass that love onto others. The more stuff that is out there the more we all benefit.
